Location
Camp St. John´s Northwestern is located in Delafield, Wisconsin, approximately 25 miles west of Milwaukee. It is situated on 150 wooded acres near the beautiful Kettle Moraine Forest Preserve and across the street from Lake Nagawicka.

Background and Philosophy
St. John´s Military Academy was founded in 1884 by Dr. Sidney T. Smythe. Dr. Smythe saw a need for a strong preparatory school for boys in grades 7-12 to prepare them for college and life. In 1995, St. John´s merged with Northwestern Military and Naval Academy in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and formed St. John´s Northwestern Military Academy.
Camp St. John´s Northwestern, a summer camp for boys, was designed to motivate campers to better understand their potential through a semimilitary-structured program. The camp combines military- and adventure-skills training with physical activities and general fun.

Program Offerings
The mission of Camp St. John´s Northwestern is to promote growth in the areas of leadership, physical training, and self-confidence. This is obtained through a daily schedule of fun and challenging activities.
One- and two-week day and boarding sessions are available. Daily activities include fitness training, adventure skills, survival skills, and athletic/recreation activities. Some of the activities boys experience include rappelling, paintballing, canoeing, marksmanship, rope bridging, fishing, and sailing.

Enrollment
Camp St. John´s Northwestern can accommodate 40-100 boys, depending on the session. Boarding camp is open to boys ages 12-16. Day camp is open to boys entering grades 6-8. In 2003, campers came from sixteen states and five different countries.

Extra Opportunities and Activities
Additional camp activities may include island survival training on St. John´s Island, a 10-mile canoe trip, and a ropes and challenge course. A 1-mile open lake swim challenge is optional. At the end of camp, the Camp Challenge tests each camper and his platoon´s ability to successfully complete missions covering skills learned at camp. Camp awards are distributed at a closing ceremony at the end of each session.

Facilities
Camp St. John´s Northwestern uses the same Academy facilities as the fall program. For housing, the campers occupy one of the three barracks on campus, where most live 2 to a room. For athletics and recreation, a nine-hole golf course is located adjacent to the soccer, track, baseball, and football fields. A full-size gymnasium includes a basketball court, weight training and tae kwon do rooms, a swimming pool, and a barbershop. Mouso Hall, the student recreation center, offers a snack bar, an HDTV home theater system, Ping-Pong tables, billiard tables, video games, and an indoor rifle range. Campers enjoy three meals per day in Welles Dining Hall.

Staff
The staff is drawn from the regular school faculty and TAC (Train, Advise, Counsel) instructors, all who have military training. The campers are divided into four platoons. Two adults and one cadet are assigned to a platoon of campers.

Medical Care
Nurses run the nine-bed infirmary on campus. All prescribed medication is administered by the nursing staff. The school´s nurse practitioner is on call as needed. A physical exam, health history form (provided by the camp), and health insurance are required.

Religious Life
Campers attend a nondenominational service on Sunday.

Costs
Camp fees vary from $475 to $1400, depending on the session. Camp fees include the uniform (camouflage uniform, athletic shirts and shorts, and one pair of jungle-style boots), paintball equipment, all camp transportation fees, off-campus entrance fees, and breakfast and lunch for day campers or room, board, and laundry service for those boarding.

Transportation
The campus is located approximately 25 miles west of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, off Interstate 94, an hour from Madison, Wisconsin, and approximately 2 hours from Chicago, Illinois. Campers traveling great distances may fly into Mitchell International Airport located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Arrangements to pick up a camper from the Milwaukee airport may be made through the Academy for a fee.

Application Timetable
Applications are accepted until sessions are full. Early application is advised as camp space is limited. Campus tours may be scheduled throughout the year. There is a nonrefundable application fee of $75. All eligible campers may be tested and interviewed during camp for possible enrollment at St. John´s Northwestern Military Academy.
